Error: Meta size 4064 too large (max = 1000)

When using Mannasim Simulator for ns2, you may encounter this error when you are trying to run a tcl file with LEACH protocol. Here is a small workaround for the solution.

To install mannasim, please go here.

To overcome the above error, open the file
~ns-2.35/common/packet.h
and change the following line

struct hdr_rca {
       int msg_type_;
       char meta_[1000];

to

struct hdr_rca {
       int msg_type_;
       char meta_[5000];

Since I get 4064 as meta size, i changed it to 5000, if you get more than 4064, then accordingly you can increase the meta size and compile it. 

Here is the important step to compile 

~ns-2.35 $] ./configure --with-tcl-ver=8.5
~ns-2.35 $] make

Sometimes simply typing make will compile, but the .object files would not be created. So use the above two steps.

AWK Scripts are very good in processing the data column wise. For example
the first column in the above trace file represents r, s which indicates receive, sent respectively. If we want to trace the entire r and s alone from this trace file we can represent it as $1

$3 Node ID
$4 Layer
$5 Flags
$6 seqno
$7 type
$8 Size

nam installation - Segmentation Fault (Solved)

If you are encountering "Segmentation Fault" error while running nam in Ubuntu 14.04 or Linux Mint 17+ editions, this post will be helpful for you.

Download the nam file from this link

First, remove the nam which was installed earlier using the following command 

pradeep@localhost $] sudo apt-get remove nam

and install the new nam which was downloaded just now. go to the folder where the file was downloaded and issue the following command

pradeep@localhost $]  sudo dpkg --install nam_1.15-10_i386.deb

Xgraph

Xgraph is an X-Windows application that includes: interactive plotting and graphing animation and deritives portability and bug fixes So to plot the characteristics of NS2 parameters like throughput, end to end delay, packets information, etc can be plotted using xgraph
The successful installation of NS2 will install xgraph also along with it.
To run xgraph from a shell prompt: # xgraph filename.xginside TCL scripts, xgraph can be written like this
exec xgraph filename.xg -geometry 500×500
if there are more xgraph files then,
exec xgraph filename1.xg -geometry 500×500 &
exec xgraph filename2.xg -geometry 500×500 &
