NAM and XGraph Installation in Ubuntu 18.04

This post helps you in installing nam and xgraph in ubuntu 18.04.

Mandatory steps before proceeding the following installation

$] sudo apt update
$] sudo apt install build-essential autoconf automake libxmu-dev
$] sudo apt install gcc-4.8 g++-4.8 

Installing ns2 on Ubuntu 18.04 (Refer this detailed instructions)


ns2 uses gcc-4.8 as c compiler and
g++-4.8 as C++ Compiler

ns2, nam and xgraph all these softwares were comfortable with 4.8 version so wee need to change these settings inthe Makefile.in

We have to modify at three locations;
1. ns-2.35/Makefile.in
2. nam-1.15/Makefile.in
3. xgraph-12.2/Makefile.in

Change as per the following in the above three files.
@CC@ --> gcc-4.8
@CPP@ --> g++-4.8

ns-2.35/linkstate/ls.h 
line nuber 137, change erase to this->erase

Set the PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH in /home/networks/.bashrc file as per the video shown below.

    I faced an error while installing Xgraph , "segmentation fault (core dumped) ",
    and when I type
    >> whereis xgraph
    there is only one path which is the ns-allinone ,

    I tried to download it separately from http://www.xgraph.org/linux/index.html for linux 64 but could not install it correctly after unpackged it and "E: unable to locate package xgraph" message appeared !

    Could you suggest a solution for that ?

  4. Thank you for the tutorial! I installed xgraph successfully "sudo apt-get install xgraph
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
    xgraph is already the newest version (12.1-17).
    0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 4 not upgraded.
    " but cannot run
    "Segmentation fault (core dumped)"

  5. sir, with the help of your video i could install ns2.35, nam in ubuntu 18.04. but for xgraph12.2 i am getting segmentation fault(core dumped). I tried with version 12.1.17. but still same error. pls guide me for xgraph installation step by step.

  6. Better You can go with gnu plot instead of xgraph as xgraph has been stopped its update cycle and hence there will be bugs...

Installation of NS2 (ns-2.35) in Ubuntu 20.04
